The Climate Emergency: In February 2019 Wiltshire Council resolved to acknowledge a climate emergency and to seek to make the county of Wiltshire carbon neutral by 2030. A Global Warming and Climate Emergency Task Group was set up to gather evidence and come up with recommendations on achieving net zero. 
On 17 June 2019 Salisbury City Council also declared a climate emergency. Both Councils are working towards their goals and details can be seen on their websites.

Wiltshire Climate Alliance is an umbrella organisation for different groups to come together to campaign for action on Climate Change. Formed in February 2020 to mark the 1st Anniversary of Wiltshire’s declaration. The long-term vision of the WCA is to support Wiltshire in becoming carbon neutral by 2030. SAGP is a member of the WCA and will work together with them on joint events, initiatives and campaigns. 

Salisbury River Park- This joint project, between Wiltshire Council and the Environment Agency, aims to help reduce the risk of flooding for existing residents and businesses in Salisbury City Centre, build climate change resilience, enhance existing and create new spaces for biodiversity and improve public enjoyment of the river. This is an exciting project which will be developed in phases over the next few years. SAGP have responded to the consultation and will be further involved as the plans develop.

Salisbury Neighbourhood Development Plan – SAGP is taking the lead on the Natural Environment and Green Infrastructure Topic Group.

Ongoing  County and Local Strategies and Plans

Wiltshire's Green Infrastructure Strategy- at long last work to finalise Wiltshire Council's GI strategy is underway although there is no information as yet about the detailed timetable or information about public engagement in the process.

Salisbury Transport Strategy Refresh- this is underway with a series of workshops and public meetings to consider the issues & challenges, as well as the priorities going forward.  SAGP is closely involved and is pressing for a strategy to acknowledge the urgent need to identify & safeguard opportunities to improve connectivity for non-vehicle users and so reduce air pollution within the urban areas.  SAGP has already started work on a draft plan - 'Working towards a Green Infrastructure Strategy for the Salisbury Area', which will be shared with the Parish Councils concerned.
