Where We Came From
Salisbury Area Greenspace Partnership Launch 2012
It started with the passion of local people and South Wiltshire Agenda 21, in particular, who wanted the former Salisbury District Council as well as other agencies, to take a more sustainable and wildlife friendly approach to grassland management. This has evolved into a broad concern with greenspace and green infrastructure.
At the partnership launch the keynote speaker, Ian Phillips, landscape architect and town planner, used his presentation to emphasise the importance of having high quality multifunctional green spaces that deliver a wide range of benefits and ecosystem services. A well connected network of green spaces – the green infrastructure, needs to be in place to bring the greatest benefits for people and wildlife and to achieve resilient communities for the future.
Green infrastructure includes rivers and other water bodies which are particularly important to the special character and qualities of the Salisbury area.
The launch included two facilitated workshops where delegates identified key local issues and the opportunities for action. Details of the feedback were recorded and helped shape the focus for SAGP going forward. A number of delegates at the launch volunteered to create the steering group.
