Who We Are

Salisbury Area Greenspace Partnership (SAGP) is a community-led initiative. At the launch in 2012 a wide range of people with an interest in greenspace were brought together and provided the mandate for setting up an informal partnership.

Partners and Supporters represent a wide range of interests in greenspace in the local area. These include Wiltshire Council and the parish councils of Salisbury, Laverstock and Ford, and Wilton; Salisbury BID, the environmental agencies and other organisations such as Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, the RSPB, significant landowners such as the Cathedral Dean and Chapter; Friends Of groups; the Harnham Watermeadows Trust, and volunteer groups with special interests such as walking for health, cycling, conservation work, and the monitoring and recording of local flora and fauna.

Volunteers came forward at the launch to form the steering group and there are Focus Groups tackling the main aspects of what we do:
  • Mapping local greenspace assets with a view to developing a local green infrastructure strategy and action plan
  • Planning and influencing work
  • Practical projects

The plan illustrates our current area of interest which includes the main urban areas of Wilton, Salisbury and Laverstock and Ford as well as the immediately adjoining rural parishes of South Newton, Woodford, Durnford, Clarendon Park, Britford, Netherhampton and Quidhampton.

One of the key local issues identified at the launch was the inability to appreciate the bigger picture across this area. SAGP has therefore developing a publicly accessible digital mapping capability to provide the overview of the area’s greenspace assets and a database and one stop shop for greenspace information.

Other aspects of our work include monitoring and responding to planning applications, planning appeals and consultations of various types in order to influence decision making where possible; taking opportunities to raise awareness of the importance and value of greenspace and initiating a number of practical projects involving local people in the area.
